Jordi Agustí is ICREA Research Professor at the Catalan Institute of Human Paleoecology and Social Evolution (Tarragona).

A specialist in fossil mammals, his research activity has focused on the environmental changes that have influenced the evolution of our lineage.

He has led projects in North Africa and the Caucasus, and is part of the research team in the Georgian town of Dmanisi, where the oldest hominid remains in Eurasia have been found.

In 2002, he received the Prize for Scientific Literature from the Fundació Catalana per a la Recerca and a year later the Generalitat de Catalunya awarded him the Narcís Monturiol Medal for scientific and technological merit.

He is the author of numerous works, including 'Evolution and its metaphors' (Tusquets), 'Fossils, genes and theories' (Tusquets), 'The chess of life' (Criticism), 'The first settlers of Europe' (RBA ), 'Alice in the Land of Evolution' (Review) and 'Leonardo's Smile' (RBA).
